Led by the talented Mireia Carbonell, this dynamic band merges traditional Catalan folk melodies with Mediterranean rhythms and jazzy influences, creating a truly unique and immersive musical experience. Their sound reflects the journey of immigration and cultural fusion, bringing together Mediterranean grooves with elements of funk, Latin, and jazz.

About Periscopi Invertit & Mireia Carbonell
Originally from Catalonia, Spain, Mireia Carbonell is a versatile bassist, composer, and bandleader whose work is deeply inspired by the intersection of traditional and contemporary sounds. She has dedicated years to studying the nuances of folk music from the Mediterranean region, blending them with intricate jazz harmonies and vibrant world music rhythms.
Her vision for Periscopi Invertit is to craft a sound that reflects cultural movement, migration, and transformation, embodying a fusion of different traditions and influences.
The band’s repertoire is rooted in Catalan musical heritage, but it’s far from conventional—each piece is reimagined through funky grooves, rich harmonies, and global rhythms. Their songs, including El poder del cant, La cançó del lladre, Ball de l'àliga, Ball pla de Lladurs and La dama d'Aragó, offer a deep, evocative journey through history and modernity, nostalgia and reinvention.
Periscopi Invertit has gained recognition across London’s diverse live music scene, performing at well-known venues such as The Jago, The Old Hall at Lincoln’s Inn, Upstairs at the Ritzy, and The Post Bar, among others. Their performances have been praised for their ability to transport audiences through time and geography, creating a unique musical experience that blends storytelling with rhythmic innovation.
